ASD Module 1: Characteristics of Autism (OnDemand)

As more and more children with Autism enter our school systems, Lurie helps prepare teachers to identify the characteristics of Autism, understand the impact of those characteristics on communication, social relationships, learning, attention, and behavior of individuals with Autism, and learn what can be done to address deficiencies. Reframe your perception of these children by learning to see Autism as a culture--a way of thinking, behaving, and working-- rather than a disability, while hearing the first-hand account of individuals with Autism and the ways they struggle with sensitivity, discomfort, and isolation. Beyond understanding this complex condition, this course reveals the unique qualities of individuals with Autism and provides specific strategies and interventions to address the impacts, improve the social lives, and ease anxiety, unhappiness, and isolation in classrooms.
